Im going to try re-cloning the drive with the target partition the same size as the source. there doesn't appear to be anything wrong other than the BOOTMGR being "missing". I tried booting from the Windows disc (Server 2008 R2) and using command prompt issued the following commands in order to fix it between every clone, it did not work (when booting to the disc the old 500GB drive was disconnceted)īootrec /ScanOS (the installation was found as D:\WINDOWS)Īll the commands reported succesful operations but I still cannot boot to the new drive.ĮDIT:Booting into the 500GB drive allows me to confirm the clone was successful and the data is on the 320GB drive. none of these would prevent the BOOTMGR error when booting. after several failed attempts I decided to make a back-up image of the partition and try to restore the partition to a new drive. I tried re-cloning altering the settings I was using. Select Command Prompt from the Recovery Options. I run and message was - Element not found. Select Repair your computer from the menu that appears. I run this and the display indicated it - Completed Successfully.
Tap rapidly on theI at first tried cloning the whole drive since the actual data would not have filled up the 320, (I had about 340GB unallocated on the 500GB drive) Using clonezilla, this appeared to work however I was unable to boot to the drive. If you do not have the Installation Media: Restart your personal computer. But Bootrec /RebuildBcd (ideally the command I need to use) doesnt work. But I ran it once so I shouldnt have to again.
#Bootrec /fixboot element not found windows 7#
I was attempting to clone a 60GB partition form a 500GB drive to a 320GB drive. Choose the Windows 7 installation that youd like to perform the Startup Repair on, then click on Next. Bootrec /fixboot gave me access denied but I fixed that issue, although it returns whenever you boot it again.
